For what felt like an eternity, I racked my brains over which program would be suitable for my first steps as an author. I searched through all the forums that were recommended to me and came across the standard authoring programs, all of which have their strengths and weaknesses. I just wanted something that I could install and then finally get started. Unfortunately, I couldn't make up my mind and still don't see the point in regularly paying for updates to a program that has too many weaknesses. At some point I got frustrated and slowly but surely lost the desire to start my book at all. Then I came across an article by a well-known author that has influenced me to this day. I can't remember the exact wording, but it went something like this:
“Just start writing. Don't waste time on unimportant things that slow you down and use the simplest program you have. Only your idea counts. If you're serious, you'll grow into it. Just get started.”
Once I had internalized this wisdom, things went quickly. I opened Word and, thanks to lots of tips on YouTube, I learned quickly. Over the years, I kept coming across Scrivener, a versatile authoring program that became increasingly popular. After I bought it and installed it on my computer, I was presented with a comprehensive interface that I had previously only known from Photoshop. Despite a few tutorial videos, I still haven't mastered Scrivener, which I put down to a lack of time. If I had to make a recommendation, I would say Scrivener, even if it means a learning process that I still have to face. Once you have mastered it, the possibilities are almost unlimited and simplify the writing process enormously.
Eine gefühlte Ewigkeit habe ich mir den Kopf darüber zerbrochen, welches Programm für meine ersten Schritte als Autor geeignet wäre. Ich durchforstete alle Foren, die mir empfohlen wurden und stieß auf die handelsüblichen Autorenprogramme, die alle ihre Stärken und Schwächen haben. Ich wollte einfach etwas haben, das ich installieren kann und dann endlich loslegen. Leider konnte ich mich nicht entscheiden und sehe bis heute keinen Sinn darin, regelmäßig für die Updates eines Programms zu bezahlen, das zu viele Schwächen hat. Irgendwann war ich frustriert und verlor langsam aber sicher die Lust, überhaupt mit meinem Buch anzufangen. Dann stieß ich auf einen Artikel eines bekannten Autors, der mich bis heute geprägt hat. Ich kann mich nicht mehr an den genauen Wortlaut erinnern, aber er lautete ungefähr so:
"Fang einfach an zu schreiben. Verschwende keine Zeit mit unwichtigen Dingen, die dich aufhalten, und benutze das einfachste Programm, das du hast. Nur deine Idee zählt. Wenn du es ernst meinst, wirst du in die Materie hineinwachsen. Fang einfach an."
Nachdem ich diese Weisheit verinnerlicht hatte, ging es schnell. Ich öffnete Word und dank vieler Tipps auf youtube lernte ich schnell. Im Laufe der Jahre stieß ich immer wieder auf Scrivener, ein vielseitiges Autorenprogramm, das immer beliebter wurde. Nachdem ich es mir gekauft und auf meinem Computer installiert hatte, bot sich mir eine umfangreiche Oberfläche, wie ich sie bisher nur von Photoshop kannte. Trotz einiger Lernvideos beherrsche ich Scrivener bis heute nicht, was ich auf Zeitmangel zurückführe. Wenn ich eine Empfehlung aussprechen müsste, würde ich zu Scrivener raten, auch wenn es einen Lernprozess bedeutet, dem ich mich noch stellen muss. Wenn man es einmal beherrscht, sind die Möglichkeiten nahezu unbegrenzt und vereinfachen den Schreibprozess enorm.
